Material Processing Activities
Ripping Programs
HS uses four different rip work cells, each customized to different industry applications to rip approximately 1,400,000 bf per month. Rip strategies vary by project and are driven by the profit considerations of each client's products. All systems use moving blades ripsaws and varying types of automated material handling equipment.
You can review a summary of the active HS projects by species, regions, thickness and type of processing here.
Surfacing
Two of the rip lines have in-line Newman Planers based upon helical carbide cutting heads. Projects on the other lines are generally based upon lumber surfaced by the supplying mills.
Cut-to-Length & Trimming
Increasingly clients need "Moulder Ready" components that allow them be definitive with costing, minimize their lead times and eliminate the need to process off-fall or secondary products. HS has an expanding facility being used to trim clear components to length, and to fully optimize "cut-part" components for applications ranging from cabinets to stair treads.
